William Clark

William "Bill" Clark, 64, of Waukon died Friday, December 28, 2007 in Waukon. Funeral services were held Monday, December 31 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial with graveside military rites was in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.

William "Bill" Haining Clark was born May 24, 1943 in Waukon to Keith Winter and Hope Adelaide (Haining) Clark. After graduating from Waukon High School in 1961, Bill joined the US Navy where he served as a 3rd Class Petty Officer and saw much of his duty in Rota, Spain. After being discharged in 1964, he spent a year in Cedar Rapids before returning to Waukon. He began working with his father Keith, and eventually joined him as a part owner of Waukon Implement and Service Company, the local John Deere dealership.

September 3, 1966 he married Marilyn Teresa Troendle at St. Mary's Lycurgus Catholic Church.

In 1983, after having sold the implement business, Bill started Clark Tire Center in Waukon. He was still active in the business, along with his wife Marilyn and son Dave, until very recently when his health prevented him from going to the shop every day. Since 1996 Bill has also served as an Allamakee County Supervisor. For the past 30 years, Bill and Marilyn have lived on a small farm east of Waukon. He enjoyed working on the farm and when the kids were young, they raised some livestock, corn and hay. In more recent years the emphasis has changed to doing conservation work and improvements.

Bill was an active member of the community, serving on various boards associated with his supervisor duties as well as being a church board member at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Allamakee Antique Auto Club and the Waukon Golf and Country Club. His special interest included fishing, hunting and traveling and he spent many hours restoring older John Deere equipment. Bill enjoyed being around and cared about people and he loved spending special times with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Waukon; three children, David (Dawn) Clark of Waukon, Deborah (Dana) Brown of Anoka, MN and Denise Clark of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Eli, Carter, Conner and Emily; two sisters, Barbara (Lee) Kuska of Beloit, WI and Sally Miller of Marshalltown; and a brother, Tom (Marita) Clark of North Liberty. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Gregg Miller.

Honorary casketbearers are Dan Welsh, Merle Honn, Franklin Weymiller, Gilbert Livingood, Dennis and Butch Troendle and Tom Lind. Casketbearers were Phil Betsinger, Carl Moyer, Tom Clark, Trent Jacobs, James J. Troendle and Tim Heiderscheit.
