Helen Voshell

Helen (Hardrock) Voshell, 75, of Waukon, died July 11, 2000, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon following a brief illness. Funeral services were held July 14 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial was in the Old West Paint Creek Cemetery, rural Waterville.

Helen Melvina Voshell was born November 21, 1924, in Decorah, the daughter of Gustav and Amanda (Hanson) Budahl. She moved with her family to the rural Waterville area at the age of six, following the death of her mother.

She was confirmed at the West Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church and attended rural Waterville schools.

On February 6, 1940, she married Irvin Iverson with whom she had five children - a son who precedes her in death and four daughters who survived.

She later married Paul Knopf, with whom she had a son who survives her.

Helen worked at Iowa Turkey Products in Postville for many years. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, dancing, making lefse and going to the Miss Marquette.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Irvin N. Iverson; a grandson, William Hertrampf; and a sister, Bernice Linderbaum. Survivors include four daughters, Shirley Tanguay of Charleston, SC, Carol (Ron) Morse of Kingston, TN, Joanne (Lawrence) Larson of Rossville and Sally (Lloyd) Blackford of Blue Mound, WI; a son, Ron Knopf of Waukon; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances Bussness of Waukon; a half-sister, Linda Kruse of Dike; and two very special friends, Raymond Sass of Monona and Shelly Baumgartner of Waukon.

Casketbearers were Delbert Fish, Keith Burger, Lloyd Blackford, Randy Eberling, Don Bugenhagen and Mike Looney. Honorary casketbearers were her granddaughters, Robin, Carrie, Sarah, Madeline, Miranda, Donna, Laurie, Lisa, Lynette, Pamela and Elisha.

Martin Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
