Marlene A. Baumler, 64, of Waukon, died Wednesday, November 6, 2002, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 9, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, with Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon assisted with arrangements. Marlene Ann Ehler Baumler was born November 21, 1937, in Decorah, the daughter of Felix and Bertha (Wenthold) Ehler. She attended St. Francis DeSales Elementary and High School in Ossian, graduating in 1956. On August 18, 1959, she married Irenus Baumler at DeSales Catholic Church in Ossian. Together they farmed near St. Lucas until 1976, when they moved to rural Waukon and continued farming in Ludlow Township. They moved into Waukon in 2000. Marlene was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon and a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul. She was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed gardening, cooking, country, and polka music, traveling to Branson, Mo., and spending time with her family and grandchildren. Survivors include her husband Irenus of Waukon; two sons, Kenneth (Jan) Baumler of Waukon and Allan (Kim) Baumler of Dyersville; a daughter, Sharon Baumler of Coralville; four grandchildren; three sisters, Jeanette Ihde of Clermont, Laverna Novak of Albert Lea, Minn., and DiAnn (Gary) Svenson of Decorah; and a brother, Ronald (Lorraine) Ehler of Ossian.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, LeRoy Ihde. Casketbearers were Ken and Terry Ehler, Terry Novak, Loren and Mike Ihde, Darin Svenson, Josh Holland, and Vernon Hageman.
