Helen I. Rasmussen, 74, of 900 I Ave. NW, died Monday morning, March 29, 1999, in Mercy Medical Center after a brief illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Papich-Kuba Janeba Chapel West, by the Rev. Rick Gail of First Assembly of God. Burial: Spring Grove Cemetery, Covington. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the chapel.

Survivors include five daughters, Sandra Carolan and husband Michael of Cedar Rapids, Sharon Koop and husband David of Hazelwood, Mo., Diana Brola of Las Vegas, Becky Fester and husband Gary of Clearwater, Fla., and Raejeanne Swore and husband Rick of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Irwin Rasmussen and wife Kathy of Bradenton, Fla., and Richard Rasmussen and wife Linda of Ely; two brothers, Thomas O'Hare and wife Jean and Ray O'Hare and wife Karen, all of Waukon; seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Rasmussen; her parents, Thomas and Myrl (Burroughs) O'Hare, and two brothers, Jim and Joe O'Hare.

Helen was born Oct. 12, 1924, in French Creek Township, Allamakee County, Iowa, and came to Cedar Rapids in 1944. She married Verle D. Rasmussen on Nov. 12, 1943, in St. Louis. He died Nov. 2, 1991.

She was employed as a cook at the Cedar Rapids Care Center until her retirement in 1989. Helen was a hardworking, generous person who was an excellent cook and loved to receive flowers.
