Jack Sanders

A committal service will be held for Jack Sanders at the Postville Cemetery on October 27, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. Jack Sanders, 84, of Tempe, Ariz. died October 30, 2007 .

Jack Sanders was born April 16, 1923 at Postville, Iowa. He was a 1941 graduate of Postville High School where he lettered in baseball, football and basketball. He received a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from the University of Iowa in 1949. Sanders lettered in baseball while attending the University of Iowa. He earned his Ph. D. in chemistry from Harvard University in 1953. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy.

Jack was employed by the Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Mich. from 1952-1959; Aerojet General Corporation, Sacramento, Calif. from 1959-1971. From 1971 until his retirement he worked in Boulder City, Nev., Honolulu, Hawaii and in Southern California.

Jack was united in marriage to Inez Traffarn Sanders in 1949. They later divorced. He married Louise B. Sanders in 1973.

Survivors include his wife Louise; daughters, Susan Lee Sanders (John Dussault), and Sally Sanders Sonner (David Sonner); his son, John Gilbert Sanders (Susan Haberman Sanders); grandchildren, Joshua, John M. , Christina, Stephen, Joan, Joel, Jessica Sanders, Nathan Sonner, Joseph and Jack Orchard and great-grandchildren Noah, Faith and Caleb Sanders. Also surviving are sisters Gertrude (Dr. Frank) Norden, formerly of Waukon and Janet Overhuls.

Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Sanders Orchard.
