MRS. GEORGE (Dorothy Irene Walby) WATERS
Dorothy Irene Waters, 69, died June 13 at her home in Akeley, MN.
She was born July 16, 1919 to Alwin and Charlotte Walby in Frankville, IA.
She grew up in Frankville and graduated from Postville High School in 1936. In 1937, she was united in marriage to George Waters in Harmony, MN.After her marriage, she and George lived in several locations including Farmersburg, Guttenberg, Hampton, IA; Canton, SD, Akeley, MN and Mercedes, TX. It was in Hampton, IA and Canton, SD where they raised their family and where Dorothy was employed as an assistant in the auditor's office for 15 years. Upon their retirement in 1978, Dorothy and George spent their summers in Akeley, MN and their winters in Mercedes, TX. During her life, Dorothy was involved with the Mothers Club, MYF, Women's Society of Christian Service and Den Mother of Cub Scouts, all in Hampton and was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Hampton and Canton and the United Methodist Church in Akeley.
She is survived by her husband, George of Akeley; 2 sons, Arland, Fargo, SD and Duane, Iowa City; 1 daughter, Julie Minor, Coon Rapids, MN; 2 brothers, Lester Walby, Cedar Rapids and Leland Walby, Postville; 1 sister, Doris Ellis, DeWitt, IA; and 8 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Gary and infant daughter, Jeanette.
The family prefers memorials to the National Leukemia Society of the United Methodist Church of Akeley.
Funeral services were Saturday, June 17, 1989 at the Akeley United Methodist Church. Funeral services were also held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 18 at the Frankville Presbyterian Church, Frankville. Rev. James Elvig officiated.
Interment was at the Frankville Cemetery, Frankville, IA.
