Gerald "Jerry" Colsch, 65, of La Crosse, WI, formerly of New Albin, died Saturday, September 1, 2007 at the family farm in New Albin. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 5 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Albin, with Fr. Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, New Albin. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 4 at the New Albin Community Center, where there will be a 7 p.m. scripture service.

Casketbearers were Dave Carroll, Frank Mettille, Dick Weisbecker, Lawrence Mitchell, Ralph Nelson, John Klouda.

Gerald Francis "Jerry" Colsch was born April 16, 1942 on the rural New Albin farm of his parents, Peter and Anna (Mettille) Colsch. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Albin. He attended elementary and high school in New Albin before graduating from St. George High School in Lansing in 1960. After working on the farm for several years, he enrolled at the University of Iowa, where he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1970.

August 26, 1967 he married Myrna Ann Conway at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elma. Following his graduation from college, Jerry began a career with the Trane Company in La Crosse, WI which lasted 36 years. He and Myrna lived most of that time on their farm in New Albin, moving to La Crosse in 2000.

Jerry was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church while living in New Albin and St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Onalaska while living in La Crosse. He was also a member of Trane's 25-year Club and looked forward to their get-togethers. Throughout his life he was an avid outdoorsman and spent many of his favorite days gardening, hunting and tending to details on the farm.

Survivors include his wife, Myrna of La Crosse; three children, Chris (Myron) Bries of Bettendorf, and Carl (Jenifer) and Dan (Jackie Riekens) Colsch, both of New Albin; six grandchildren, Austin, Isaac and Kendra Bries and Allison, Laura and Chance Colsch; and three brothers, Cecil (Bette) Colsch of Woodstown, NJ, Gary (Pat) Colsch of Shalimar, FL, and John Colsch of New Albin. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Cindy Colsch.
