Marian Louise Crane was born on July 16, 1938 on the rural Lansing farm of her grandparents Emil and Amanda Fritz, the daughter of Howard S. and Helen Marie (Fritz) Beardmore. She attended Lycurgus country school and Waukon High School. On November 25, 1954 she married Arthur Crane. They were later divorced. Marian cooked at the New Albin School for several years. She received her GED in 1970 and graduated from Western Wisconsin Technical Institute with a degree in nursing in 1974. Marian worked at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse.
On August 28, 1982 she married James Crane. They lived in Montana where she worked for several hospitals and Park Place Nursing Home in Great Falls, Montana. Marian moved back to the Waukon area after Jim's death in 1992, where she worked at Thornton Manor and Northgate Care Center until she retired in 1995.
Marian was a hard working woman, struggling as a single woman raising two boys in a time when single mothers did not get a lot of respect. She enjoyed spending much of her free time attending her boys baseball games from little league thru High school. She also was able to enjoy the baseball and softball games of her grandchildren. Her love for bright colors was reflected in her flower gardens, the clothes she wore and many things that she surrounded her self with. This was her way of brightening her world. Later in life she spent a lot of time helping her parents as they struggled with getting older. Many of Marian's happiest days were spent hiking through the Rocky Mountains, exploring old mines and enjoying the pure beauty of the land with the love of her life, Jim. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. Marian enjoyed family times, politics, crocheting, taking care of her flower gardens, spending time with her dogs, Charlie and Pita and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
