Daniel J. Gavin

Daniel J. Gavin, 77, of Sturtevant, WI passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, Saturday, May 19, 2007, following a short battle with common bile duct cancer. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 23 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Sturtevant, with Rev. Robert Konkol, OFM officiating. Burial with full military honors followed in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery.

Daniel was born in Lansing April 20, 1930, the son of the late Michael J. and Elizabeth M. (nee Manning) Gavin.

August 16, 1955 he married the former Luann Hess at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing. Daniel served with the U.S. Army Artillery APO-24 in Korea from November of 1955 until February of 1957. After he was injured he became the mail clerk for his unit. He had been employed by Yule Truck Lines for over 11 years and retired from Roadway Express in 1993 after 23 years of service.

Daniel enjoyed helping to bring in crops on the family farm, doing odd jobs for the neighbors and spending time with bumpa's boy. He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the VFW.

Daniel is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years, Luann; their children, Richard (Lori) Gavin of Racine, WI, Gerald (Shelly) of Kaukauna, WI, Maureen (Kenyon) Tevrucht of Racine, WI, Ann Gavin of Mt. Horeb, WI, and David (Desireé) Gavin and Donald (Sheri) Gavin, all of Sturtevant, WI; grandchildren, Jackie Harrell, Kimberly (Wally) Kissh, Katie Tevrucht, Daniel Gavin, Mary Gavin, Michael Tevrucht, Margaret Gavin, Theresa Gavin and Lucas Gavin; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Feuerhelm of Lansing and Marguerite (Grover) Massey of Kenosha, WI; sisters-in-law, Alyce Gavin and Georgianna Gavin of Lansing; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clair, Joe, Clarence, and Paul Gavin; and by his sisters, Leona Ferko, Elizabeth Gavin, Regina Folsom, and Sr. Shelia Gavin.
