Chas. Wegner Passed Away on Wednesday
Had Been Lifelong Resident Here: Funeral Services Were Held Saturday

The entire community was saddened by word last Wednesday night that Charles Wegner, lifelong resident of this community, had passed suddenly away while working in the yard at his home in this city. He had been about his work as usual during that day and in his usual good health.
Funeral services wer held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 from the home and 2:00 o'clock from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Rev. Rederick R. Ludwig officiating. Interment was made in Postville cemetery. Members of Postville Lodge, No. 707, I.O.O.F., attended the services and acted as an honorary escort, the deceased having been affiliated with the order.

Charles Wegner was born in Clayton county December 18,1878, the only son of Carl and Christina Wegner. His early boyhood days were spent on what is known as the Wegner farm, south of Postville, residing there with his parents until 1907, when he bought the place.

He was united in marriage to Louise Lubbers, March 21, 1911, and the couple continued to farm the home place until 1913 when they moved to Postville,residing here ever since. Mr. Wegner worked for a number of years fo C. F. Meier and during the last few years was engaged in draying and trucking here.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in which he was baptized and confirmed and as stated above, he was also an Oddfellow.
Mr. Wegner was known to all as an honest and industrious man, whose sudden passing will be mourned by all who knew him. He was ever genial and kind, a man who made many friends along life's pathway.

He is survived by the widow and two children, Helen and Harlan; one granson Charles Wegner; five sisters, Mrs. Emma Everman, Miss Anna Wegner, Mrs. Clara Miller of this community; Mrs. Lee L. Gwyn of Roseville, California, and Mrs. Marie Davis of Minneapolis, Minnesota, in addition to numerous other relatives and friends.
