Gene Gray

Gene H. Gray, 76, of Lansing passed away Thursday, May 17, 2007 at his home in Lansing. Per his wishes, Gene was cremated. A memorial service was held Saturday, May 19 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lansing followed by a graveside service at Oak Hill Cemetery, also in Lansing.

Gene is survived by his wife, Cecilia Gray of Lansing; two stepsons, Dan (Kim) Gibbs of Winona, MN and Derrick (Kari) Gibbs of Jesup; a grandson, Jamie (Jill) Hauser of Blaine, MN; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Hulda Gray.

Gene Henry Gray was born October 24, 1930 to Roy and Hulda (Olson) Gray in Mason City. He married Cecilia Knopf June 6, 1981 in Lansing at the Lutheran Church.

Gene was a 1949 graduate of the Aitkin Public School in Aitkin, MN. He served with the United States Navy for three years in the Korean War, from February 1, 1950 until his honorable discharge November 1, 1953. After serving his country, Gene was a high school teacher for 17 years, retiring in 1975. He then served with the Lansing Police Department for 17-1/2 years, retiring from that position in 1992.

Gene was a member of the Lansing American Legion No. 50, and the Lansing VFW No. 5981. He was very athletic and enjoyed baseball, hunting, and fishing.

Arrangements were handled by the Cremation Society of Eastern-Central-Western Iowa.
