Donald Schnuelle 1941-2002

Funeral services for Donald Schnuelle were held Tuesday, September 24, 2002, at 11:00 A. M. in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia, Iowa. The Reverend Dave L. Lenth officiated. Special music was provided by Marlys Hager, organist and Don Dilaura, soloist. Casket Bearers were Charles T. Brown, Dean Henning, Danny Schnuelle, Hank Wilson, Guy Schultz, Ricky Schnuelle. Honorary Casket Bearers were Eddie and Betty Schnuelle, Raymond and Lois Schnuelle, Alan and Judy Schnuelle, Clinton and Bev Schnuelle, Arvin and Judy Koopman. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Castalia. Donald "Buck" LeRoy Schnuelle, the son of Fritz Schnuelle and Irene Dahlstrom Schnuelle, was born July 24, 1941, on a farm north of Postville, Iowa in Allamakee County. He passed away Saturday morning, September 21, 2002, in Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He had reached the age of 61 years, one month, and 27 days. He was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia. Don attended the Castalia Schools. On November 29, 1958 he was married to Karen Kay Klepper in the Zion Lutheran Church. To this union five children were born. Don has lived in Castalia all of his life. He drove a milk truck for many years and then a Redi-Mix truck. He also operated the bar, "Buck's Joint," in Castalia. For the last several years he transported bulk milk for Schneider Motor Ways. After Don's heart surgery, he kept himself busy working at odd jobs. Don enjoyed his family, especially when his grandchildren and great grandchildren were born. He also had a special dog, Penny, who accompanied him everywhere and a horse named Dottie. He had recently joined the Winneshiek County Saddle Club. Don also liked to go fishing. He is preceded in death by his parents and two nephews, Rodney Schnuelle and Grant Koopman. Surviving is his wife, Karen, his children, Cindy L. And husband, Jim Neftzger of Fayette, IA, Greg A. Schnuelle and wife, Darla of Ossian, Joanie K. Gordon and Ronnie D. Schnuelle and wife, Lacey, all of Castalia, and Darin D. Schnuelle of New York City; five grandchildren, Jamie Smith and wife, Laurie, Chena Schnuelle, Dacia Schnuelle, Kohl Schnuelle, and Kenadee Schnuelle; two great grandchildren, Mason and Peyton Smith; one sister, Judy Koopman and husband, Arvin, of Dalton, WI, four brothers, Eddie Schnuelle and wife, Betty, Raymond Schnuelle and wife, Lois, Alan Schnuelle and wife, Judy, and Clinton Schnuelle and wife, Bev, all of Castalia, and many nieces and nephews. Don was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia.
