Anna Welch

Anna Welch, 97, passed away Wed., Dec. 20, 2000 at Thornton Manor in Lansing.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Wed., Dec. 27, 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lycurgus.

Anna was born Nov. 7, 1903 in French Creek Township, rural Waukon, to Andrew and Eila (Dougherty) Laughlin. She taught in rural schools until her marriage to Leo T. Welch on May 16, 1928 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lycurgus. The couple farmed in French Creek Township until their retirement.

Anna is survived by four daughters, Donna L. Ritter, LaCrosse, WI, Anita M. Welch, Minneapolis, MN, Elaine (Jack) Kaufman, Sun City, AZ, and Sister Mary Leanne (Yvonne) Welch, PBVM, Birmingham, AL; two sons, Wayne M. Welch, Falls Church, VA, and Denis (Deana) Welch, rural Lansing; ten grandchildren, Leanna (Mark) Bentzen, Mark (Karen) Ritter, Terri Davidson, Sue (Bret) Blankenship, T.J., Chris, and Peter Kaufman, David (Patti) Welch, Ed Welch, and Lisa (Donald) Boyer; ten great-grandchildren, Josh and Chris Bentzen, Thomas and Nolan Ritter, Steven Davidson, Jacob, Jessica and Christopher Blankenship, Joel and Patrick Welch; and two step-grandchildren, Chad and Randy Boyer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, on Sept. 24, 1977; her parents; three sisters, Mary Walsh, Gertrude Laughlin, and an infant, Ella Frances; three brothers, Emmet, Andrew Jr., and Harold Laughlin.

Hanson Funeral Home of Waukon assisted the family.
