Funeral services for Mrs. Christine Willman were held Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Reverend T. M. Marks officiated. The organist was Joann martins and the soloist was Kim Schutte. Burial was in the Postville cemetery. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.
Christine Willman, the daughter of Friederick Welker and Margaret Wilging Welker, was born May 21, 1914, in Cruenka, Yugoslavia. She passed away Saturday morning, April 3, 1999, in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa. She had reached the age of 84 years, ten months and 12 days.
She was baptized June 26, 1914 at Cruenka and confirmed in 1920. She became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville on December 28, 1947. Christine attended the schools near her home. In 1939 she came to the United States and made her home with her sister, Margaret and husband, John Stroy, who lived in Chicago.
On July 12, 1945 she was married to Lester Fritz Willman at St. James Lutheran Church in Chicago, by the Reverend A. Dahmas. They moved to Postville in 1947. Lester and Christine farmed for several years. Christine helped with the farm work in addition to tending a large garden. She will be remembered as a hard-working farm wife and as a kind and gentle person.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lester, who died January 21, 1973, two brothers, Fritz and Heinrich Welker and a sister-in-law, Kate Welker.
Surviving is a sister, Margaret Stroy of Arlington Heights, IL, a sister-in-law, LaVila Schmidt of Postville, eleven nieces and nephews: Caroline Lucchesi of Mesa, AZ; Delores Swenson of Arlington Heights, IL; Fritz and Heini Welker of Germany; Gladys Medberry of Freeport, IL; Kathleen Burshtan of Wheaton, IL; Kathy Snitker of Postville, IA; Renee Bernath of Long Beach, CA; Sherri Oman and Ford Willman both of Mesa, AZ and Barbara Redican of Blacksburg , VA; several great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Casket bearers were Eugene Suddendorf, Charles I Deering, Kenneth Meyer, Robert Schroeder, Donald Sowers and Loren Eberling.
