Marcella Ann McGuire, 95, died Dec. 9 at her daughter's home in Wheatland.

Marcella was born July 24, 1910, in Harpers Ferry, Iowa, the daughter of Ellen (Cota) and Joseph J. Kernan.

She received her early education in Harpers Ferry. She received her training for teaching during her junior and senior years in high school; and received her normal training certificate on her 18th birthday. She taught six years in the rural schools of Allamakee County in Iowa from 1928-1934.

She married James H. McGuire Nov. 10, 1933, in Wexford, Iowa. They moved to Wheatland the last of April 1934. In September 1954, she resumed teaching in a one-room mountain school at the foot of Laramie Peak.

Times changed and she earned her bachelor of arts in education from the University of Wyoming at Laramie in August 1962; and, later made the difficult transition from the rural school to Wheatland's open classroom.

Survivors include eight sons and two daughters, Francis McGuire, Martin McGuire, Joe McGuire, Gene McGuire, Willie McGuire, and Celia Enniss all of Wheatland, Jim McGuire of Chugwater, Harry McGuire of Glendo, Charles McGuire of Torrington and Mary Norred of Breckenridge, Texas; two brothers and four sisters, Francis Kernan, Gerald Kernan, Genevieve Mohn all of Lansing, Iowa, Alice Conway of Harpers Ferry, Marguerite Schulte of Waukon, Iowa, and Sister Mary Cyrilla of Dubuque, Iowa; 22 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years on Nov. 16, 1993; a brother, Leo Kernan; two sons, Mike McGuire and Eddie McGuire; a grandson; great-niece; great-nephew; and son-in-law.

Serving as pallbearers will be Francis McGuire, Jim McGuire, Martin McGuire, Joe McGuire, Harry McGuire, Gene McGuire, and Willie McGuire. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her grandsons.

Funeral liturgy and vigil for the deceased will be 10 a.m. today at Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Wheatland with Father Jan Santich as Celebrant. Interment will be in the Wheatland Cemetery.

Memorials to St. Joseph Children's Home, Torrington WY 82240 would be appreciated by the family.
