Josephine Sivesind

Josephine "Jackie" E. Sivesind, 91, of Waukon, died on Sun., April 8, 2001, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon, following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Thurs., April 12, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe and Rev. David E. Schafer officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in
Waukon.

Josephine Etta Sivesind was born on Dec. 20, 1909, in Chariton. Her parents were Isaac and Althea (Young) Funk. She attended rural country schools in Lucas County. On Aug. 12, 1928, she married Harold Sivesind in Waukon. "Jackie" was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. She lived in Chariton before moving to Waukon in 1934. In 1966, they moved to Bakersfield, CA. In 1992, the couple moved back to Chariton; in 1997, they returned to Waukon.

Jackie was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and its ladies circle. When Jackie and Harold were members of St. John's before moving to Bakersfield, they were custodians of the church. She was also a member of the Vassa Club in Bakersfield and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Jackie enjoyed cookingcrafts, sewing , crocheting, quilting, and needlework. She also enjoyed housekeeping and was very particular about how clean her house was.

Jackie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her two sons, Kenneth and Robert; a daughter-in-law, Mary Katherine Sivesind; and one great-grandchild. She is additionally preceded by four brothers, Charles, Clifford, Harley, and Richard Funk; and two sisters, Vivian Gillespie and Marguarite Funk.

Survivors include two sons, Donald (Mary Jean) of Dorchester, and Jerry of Bakersfield, CA; and a daughter-in-law, Ruby Sivesind, of Oelwein; 16 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and a sister, Laura Gustin of Chariton; three sisters-in-law, Lucille, Edna, and Mildred Funk, all of the Chariton area.

Casketbearers were Jeff, James, and Eric Sivesind, Tom Wright, Jim Ingels, and Paul Fox.

Martin Funeral Home of Waukon assisted the family.
