This week we are called upon to chronicle the death of Thomas Sires, who was reared and passed almost his entire life on English Bench or vicinity, where he was well known and universally liked.
He was born July 13, 1872, and passed away July 8, 1928, lacking but five days of being 56 years of age.
On October 4, 1899, he was united in marriage to Miss Christina Schwartzhoff. To this union 11 children were born, four of whom have preceded their father in death.
Those left to mourn a devoted husband and father are, besides the wife, Mrs. Mary Helmbrecht of Antigo, Wisconsin; Jerome Sires of Chicago, Illinois; Eva Sires of Virginia; and Jane, Gerald and Joseph Sires at home. He is also survived by seven brothers and a sister, namely William Sires of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; John and Frank Sires living in the West; and James, Roy and Daniel Sires and Mrs. Minnie Spiegler living nearby.
About four years ago, it was noticed that his health was being undermined by a dread disease, but with his usual ambition and energy, he kept on with work until a few weeks before his death. Friends will miss his genial smile and cheerful personality, but it is in the home where his loss will be felt the most, and where the name of husband and father will be held sacred.
The funeral was held Tuesday morning at St. Mary's church in Dorchester, and after Requiem Mass celebrated by the pastor, Rev. James Mullen, the remains were laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery nearby.
CARD OF THANKS
We wish to tender our sincere and heartfelt thanks to friends for the many acts of kindness and sympathy shown us during the sickness and death of our beloved husband and father.
