Alma M. Welzel

Alma M. Welzel, 93, of Postville, died May 9.

Alma Welzel was born in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, April 3, 1886, the daughter of Henry and Mary (Eggert) Knodt. She attended rural schools and married Lawrence C. Welzel February 22, 1911. To this union, twin daughters were born, Marene and Irene. She and her husband farmed until 1937, when, in retirement, they moved to Postville. Lawrence died October 26, 1975.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Rolan (Irene) Heins of Postville; three sisters: Mrs. Margaret Okey, Mrs. Theresia Heidenreich and Mrs. Joseph (Laura) Fuchs, all of St. Paul, Minn.; three grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; one daughter, Marene; one brother, Edmund; one sister, Mrs. Henry (Louisa) Oldag, two grandsons, and one granddaughter.

Funeral services were held May 11 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church. The Rev. Norris C. Swenson officiated. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
