The death of Mrs. Hannah M. Bellows occurred Friday, April 18, 1941, at her home at New Albin, aged 89 years.

She was born at Somersetshire, England, May 2, 1851. When only a baby she came to this country with her parents, settling near Elgin, Illinois. Following the death of her mother, the family moved to French Creek township, this county, and eight years later in April 1875, they moved to New Albin which had since been her home.

In October 24, 1867, she was united in marriage with Charles H. Bellows at Waukon, the Rev. Smith officiating.

To this union were born six children, three sons and three daughters, namely, Charles, New Albin; Warren, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Mrs. Angeline Gantenbein, Duluth, Minnesota; Edward, Montrose, Iowa; Mrs. Lillian Sires, New Albin; and Mrs. Coral Fruechte, Preston, Minnesota. There are 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Deceased was one of eleven children in her immediate family, eight brothers and sisters, one half-brother, and two half-sisters. Her husband preceded her in death on March 31, 1920.

Until December 23rd last, Mrs. Bellows led an active life, full of various interests connected with her family and friends. Since that time she had been confined to her room and tenderly cared for by her devoted daughter, Lillian, with whom she spent her declining years.

New Albin, Ia. - The funeral of Mrs. Hannah Bellows, 89, was held here Sunday afternoon at the Methodist Church, with the Rev. R. Park Anderson, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the New Albin Cemetery.

The pallbearers were: Leslie Reiser, Robert and Wayne Kester, Leon and Ronald May, and Alvin Sires.

Mrs. Bellows, who had been an invalid the past 15 years, died here Wednesday at her home.

As Hannah Poole, she was born May 2, 1861, in England, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Poole. She came to America at an early age, her family settling in Illinois and later moving to Allamakee County. She was married Oct. 24, 1867, to Charles Bellows and they established their home in New Albin.

Surviving are three sons, Charles of New Albin, Gene of Milwaukee, and the Rev. E.L. Bellows of Montrose; three daughters, Mrs. Angeline Gantenbein of Duluth, Minn., Mrs. P.J. Fruechte of Preston, Minn, and Mrs. James Sires of New Albin; 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Her husband preceded her in death.
