RITES ARE HELD FOR MRS. G. A. BROOKS

Funeral services for Mrs. Gaddis A. Brooks, 79, who passed away suddenly in Postville hospital on February 18, were held Thursday afternoon in the Community Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Walter T. Martin officiating. Interment was made in the Postville Cemetery.

Elizabeth Wintrick Brooks, daughter of Christian Wintrick and Magdalena Brennaman Wintrick, was born in Zurich, Switzerland on October 28, 1878. She came with her parents to this country at the age of one year. The family settled in the Elgin vicinity at first and later in Allamakee county on a farm. She passed away suddenly at Postville hospital on February 18, 1958.

She was married to Gaddis A. Brooks of Allamakee county on January 30, 1900 and to this union two daughters were born.

Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church and attended services when she was able. Her entire lifetime was spent in the rearing of her children, loving and doing for her grandchildren and in the care of her husband the past few years.

Survivors include her aged husband, Gaddis A. Brooks, now 87 years, two daughters, Ida Belle, (Mrs. Laurence Hofer) of Postville and Bess, (Mrs. Wilson Lange) of Decorah; one sister, Ida (Mrs. M. W. Miller) of Winthrop, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Nancy Lange of Davenport, James Lange of Denver, Colorado, Susan Lange and Kevin Lange at home in Decorah; several nieces and nephews in this community and in Minnesota and many friends.

Her parents, two brothers, a half sister and two grandchildren preceded her in death.

Relatives and friends who attended the funeral services from a distance were: Mrs. M. W. Miller, Mrs. Carrie Messner, Mrs. Walter Messner and Noah Miller, all of Winthrop, Minnesota; Mrs. George Messner and Mrs. Archie Lienemann of Gaylord, Minnesota; Will C. Wells, Mrs. Adelaide Wells McBride and Mr. and Mrs. David Wells of Randalia; Mrs. Sam Stewart of Oelwein; Mrs. Herb Frink and Cletus, Mrs. Harold Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Brooks, Mrs. Allan Brooks, Cecil Stahl and Mr. and Mrs. John Palmer of Waukon; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Ralston, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Barrett and Gary of Lansing; Mrs. Augusta Webster of McGregor; Mrs. Elizabeth Thayer, Mrs. Delmar Brooks, Mrs. Olaf Neste and Mrs. Art Morrisson of Decorah; Mrs. Louise Hofer of Mundelien, Illinois; and Nancy Lange of Davenport.
