Margaret "Marg" Van Horn

Margaret "Marg" Van Horn, 78, of Waukon, passed away Mother's Day, Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center in La Crosse, WI.

Margaret was born Oct. 27, 1922 in Waukon, the daughter of Joseph and Kathleen M. (O'Neill) Collins. The family remained in Waukon and after graduation from high school, Margaret continued her education at Upper Iowa University.

Nov. 29, 1945, Margaret was wed to Donald V. Van Horn at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon. In subsequent years, the couple lived in the West Ridge area as well as Waukon. Margaret was the mother of four and a teacher for 43 years.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, and three grandchildren, Ronald Darren Snitker and infant twin boys deceased at birth.

She is survived by four children, Kathy Snitker of Big Lake, AK, Sandy Van Horn of Waukon, Lindy Howes of Waukon, and Gerry Zahariev of Hamburg, NY; one brother, Quentin Collins of Toddville; four grandchildren, Dawn Schlitter of Waukon, Josh Howes of Waukon, Ivan and Erin Zahariev of Hamburg, NY; and three great-grandchildren, Bailey, Aubry, and Deanna Schlitter.

Funeral services for Margaret were held Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon. Father Schmitt presided with interment following in St. John Baptist Cemetery in West Ridge. Pall bearers were Jim Howes, Josh Howes, Rory Schlitter, Kevin Collins, Craig Collins, and Kenny Collins.
