Otto Appel

Funeral services for Otto Appel were held Saturday, December 19,1:30 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Otto Ernest Frederich Appel, son of Joachim and Matilda (Carlson) Appel, was born February 23, 1899 at Monona. He died Wednesday, December 16, 1987 in the Good Samaritan Center, Postville, Iowa.

He was baptized April 9, 1899 and confirmed May 31, 1912 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. He attended the Monona Schools.

On July 19, 1923 he married Florence Saueresig at Elkader. The couple had 3 daughters. They farmed for a short time before moving to Postville where Otto was the Street Commissioner and then was employed by Groth's Turkey Plant.

He is preceded in death by his wife who died May 27, 1987, 4 brothers, John, William, Eldo and Henry; 4 sisters, Hanna Banning, Louise Reincke, Freda Klinkenberg and Dora Vorbeck.

He is survived by 3 daughters, Verda Mae Youngberg, El Mirage, AZ; Maxine and her husband, Eugene Suddendorf and Vivian and her husband, Francis Buren, all of Postville; 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a brother Herman, of McGregor.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville.

Casket bearers were Ronald, Gary and Kevin Suddendorf; David, Michael and Daniel Buren; Jeffrey Huinker, Geno Youngberg and Mark Bowman.
