Passing of Pioneer Residents
Gustave Wurtzel
Gustavee L. Wuetzel, was born in Ringenvalde, Preusen, Germany, Jan. 22, 1851, and died at his home in Center township Sunday, Dec 16, 1928, at 1:30 o’clock p.m., after an illness of nine weeks with dropsy being obliged to sit up in his chair the latter part of his sickness. He was married in Germany Nov. 16, 1874, and came with his wife and one daughter to America in 1880 settling in Center township, Allamakee County, which has ever since been their home. To them were born eight children, three dying in infancy. He is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters, as follows; Otto, Bernard and Robert, all of this county; Mrs. Louise Miller, of Dubuque, and Mrs. Mary Schultz, of Traer, Iowa. Deceased was an honest and upright and a good neighbor and friend, and had many acquaintances who will sympathize with the family in their bereavement.
Funeral takes place today (Wednesday) from the family home at 12 o’clock and from the German Presbyterian church in this city, of which he was a member, at 1 o’clock. Services will be conducted by the pastor, Rev. A. H. Kegel, and interment will be made in Oak Hill cemetery.
