Raymond G. "Tat" Sires, 87, of Lansing died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.

Tat was born in Dorchester, Iowa, on Sept. 10, 1915, to James and Sarah (Hahn) Sires. He married Gladys Zarwell on June 24, 1940, at Waverly, Iowa.

Tat began his career as a fuel distributor June 1, 1946, which he continued until the time he died. For 57 years, he played trumpet for the "Tyrolians" dance band. He was a life member of the American Federation of Musicians. Tat was a veteran of World War II and life member of the New Albin Iowa VFW Post No. 5603. He served in city government for 45 years, 22 years of which he served as mayor of New Albin.

Tat is survived by four children, Joel (Sharon) Sires of New Albin, Lynn Sires of Houston, Minn., Jan (Mary) Sires of Boulder, Colo., and Jane Young of Dresbach, Minn.; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Forrest Sires of New Albin.

Tat was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys on April 20, 2000, and six siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Grace United Methodist Church in New Albin, with the Rev. Steven Campbell officiating. Burial will be in New Albin City Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the VFW Post No. 5603.

Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing is assisting the family.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 26 at Grace United Methodist Church in New Albin with Rev. Steven Campbell officiating. Burial was in the New Albin City Cemetery, with military rites accorded by VFW Post #5603. Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
