Funeral services for Edward Leo Colsch were held at 1:p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Albin, Iowa. Father Hank Charipar officiated. Interment was in Sand Cove Cemetery, rural New Albin, Iowa. Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Edward Leo Colsch, son of Nick and Charlotte (Theobold) Colsch, was born January 27, 1921 near New Albin, Iowa. Edward was drafted into the U.S. Army October 20, 1942 and served in Iwo Jima and Saipan. He was awarded a purple heart and many other medals and ribbons. He was honorably discharged on November 16, 1945. He was an active member of the New Albin VFW Post 5603, the Lansing American Legion, the historical societies of Allamakee County and Houston County, Minnesota, and the Brotherhood of Independent Hobos of America. His hobo name was "Bo Britt Eddie".

Edward Leo Colsch died at the Gundersenn Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin on Sunday, May 18, 1997. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, LeRoy Colsch and Carl Colsch; 1 grandson, and 4 great-grandchildren.

Edward is survived by his wife, Evelyn (Mulholland) Colsch of Freeburg, Minnesota and 9 children: Margarette Cue of Lansing, Iowa, Ariel (Peter) Gilbertson of Reno, Minnesota, Edward (Kathy) Colsch of Brownsville, Minnesota, Evelyn (Edward) Bebee of Reno, Minnesota, Raymond (Dolly) Colsch of Freeburg, Minnesota, Ronnie Colsch of Freeburg, Minnesota, Merrel (Karen) Colsch of Reno, Minnesota, Calvin (Donna) Colsch of Freeburg, Minnesota, and Herbert (Mary) Colsch of New Albin, Iowa; 28 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Arlene (Dale) Swatosh of Oak Harbor, Washington; 5 brothers, Robert (Lucille) Colsch and Clem Colsch of New Albin, Iowa, Harold (Shirley) Colsch of Waukon, Iowa, Dale (Wanda) Colsch of Plainfield, Iowa, Loyd (Sheila) Colsch of New Albin, Iowa; and 1 aunt, Josie Gerky of Waukon, Iowa.
