T.J. Werhan's Remains Brought here for Burial
News was received on Thursday last of the death of Theodore J. Werhan, former Waukon resident, who passed away that day at Neepawa, Manitoba, Canada. His last illness extended over a period of six months from an incurable disease.
Deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Werhan and was born at Forest Mills, Franklin township, on March 7, 1861. This county was his home until 1924 when the family moved to Glencairn, Manitoba, Canada. For a number of years he farmed in Jefferson township as well as operated a threshing machine and saw mill. Later he came to Waukon and erected the Pioneer garage block on West Main street, now owned by O. J. Moe.
On December 25, 1897, he was united in Marriage with Miss Sylvia Stall, of Forest Mills, and to this union was born seven children, Namely: Paul, Columbus, Ind.; Frank, Mrs. Faith Clements and Miss Mary Werhan, Minneapolis; William, McCreary, Manitova, Canada; Charles and Milton of Glencairn, Canada, who mourn the passing of both parents, Mrs. Werhan having died in 1929. There is also an only brother, W. J. Werhan of Bennington, Kansas, and eight grandchildren.
The remains arrived here Monday and were taken to Martin Bros. chapel. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. Robert Davies. Burial was in the family lot in Evergreen cemetery in Jefferson township. The pallbearers were Paul, Frank and William Werhan, Fred Clements, Cecil Stahl and Kenneth Brooks.
Relatives from a distance in attendance at the services were Paul Werhan and family, Columbus, Ind.; Frank Werhan and family and family, Fred Clements and family and Miss Mary Werhan, all of Minneapolis; Wm. Werhan, McCreary, Canada, and D. L. Werhan of Cresco.
