Abraham Evans
Abraham Evans, the son of Alex and Manda Evans was born in Allamakee County, Iowa, on February 5, 1854 and departed this life at his home on the Smithfield road on
April 16, 1933 at one-thirty in the morning at the age of eighty years, two months and eleven days.On December 25th, 1884 he was united in marriage at Pleasant Ridge to Ella J. Brooks. To this union were born eight children, one dying in infancy, one daughter, at the age of 14 years and Mrs. Maude Fish, who passed away in 1926. Those surviving are Willie Vern, Mrs. Earl Ralston, Allamakee Co., Arthur L. at home, John C. LaCrosse, Wis., and Mrs. Herb Frink, Allamakee Co.
About 36 years ago Mr. and Mrs. Evans united with the Forest Mills United Brethren church, and for their whole lifetime endeavored to live honestly, uprightly and in the fear of God. Mr. Evans will be remembered as a fair dealing, conscientious, friendly neighbor and made and kept a host of friends who will miss his genial smile, and ready tongue.
Those who mourn his loss, beside the stricken wife and children mentioned above are one brother, John Evans of Oregon, three nieces, 10 grandchildren, and one great grandchild, besides a large number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday after noon, April 18th, 1933 in the Volney Methodist church, at two o'clock by the Rev. Louis H. Joslin, the pastor of the church. Burial was in the Smithfield cemetery.
