Monoxide Gas Kills Retired Iowa Farmer

Postville – Walter Ruckdaschel, 70, a retired farmer, died of asphyxiation Sunday when he started the family car and a pickup truck inside his double garage here with the doors closed.
Authorities said Ruckdaschel first started the pickup truck and let it run for a while. Then, they said, he started the family car to warm it up for an errand he and his wife planned. His wife found him overcome by carbon monoxide gas a few minutes later.
Ruckdaschel also is survived by 3 children, including Lyle, of near Postville. The body is at the Schulte funeral home.
