Helen Harnack

Funeral services for Helen Harnack were held Friday, Nov. 2, 1990 at 10:30 a.m. in the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, rural Postville. The Rev. James Elvig officiated, assisted by Rev. Julius L. Peterson. Barbara Guese was the soloist, accompanied by Shirley Brainard.

Helen Mabel Hannah Adam Harnack, daughter of Ross and Ora (Honn) Thornton, was born June 5, 1913 at Volney, IA. She died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 1990 at Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse.

She attended the Little Red School at Smithfield in Allamakee County, IA. On June 30, 1936 she was united in marriage to Walter Adam at Frankville, IA. They had 3 children. They farmed in Allamakee County until 1977 when she moved to Postville. Walter died July 17, 1972. She was employed as a Dietician at Northgate Manor in Waukon until 1978 and then at the Postville Good Samaritan Center until 1984. On August 8, 1981 she married Orville J. Harnack at the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. They lived in Postville.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter Adam, and one brother, Clarence who died in infancy.

Surviving are her husband, Orville, 2 sons, Neil Adam of Downers Grove, Ill.;and Walter Adam, Jr. of Oklahoma City, OK; 1 daughter, Jean Davison of Cedar Rapids, 4 sisters, Mrs. Eldo (Berniece) Hoffman of Monona, Mrs. Elmer (Marjorie) Heins, and Irene Entringer, both of Dubuque and Mrs. Bernard (Dora Jean) Snitker of Waukon; 4 grandchildren.

She was a member of the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, its women's association and the Women of ELCA at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville.

Casket Bearers: Merlin Harnack, Steve Kiesau, Jerry Fennel, Marvin Adam, Merlin Hansmeier and Meryle Honn.
