Henry Dahms Funeral Was Held Saturday
Henry Louis Dahms was born December 22, 1871, in Read township, Clayton county, Iowa, near Garnavillo, and died July 19, 1933, in the Kelleher hospital, Postville, aged 61 years, six months and 27 days.
He was the eldest among the eleven children of Henry G. and Wilhelmina Meyer-Dahms.
When a child of four years he came with his parents to the farm southeast of Postville, where he spent the remaining fifty-seven years of his life.
On March 5, 1903, he was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Meyer of Postville. This union was blessed with two children, a daughter Ora and a son Oran, both of whom are at home.
The deceased enjoyed good health all his life until July 11, 1933, when he fell from a load of hay at the home farm and sustained injuries which caused his death.
He is survived by his widow, two children, Ora and Oran; two brothers and four sisters, namely: Fred of Castalia; Mrs. Minnie Backhaus of Postville; Mrs. Mary Heins near Castalia; Mrs. Reka Schultz and Mrs. Helen Moon of Postville, and Edwin of near Postville Junction. He is also survived by an uncle, Fred J. Meyer of Postville, and two aunts, Mrs. Fred J. Meyer, and Mrs. Wm. Meyer of near Castalia, besides many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers.
Funeral services were held from St. Paul’s Lutheran church in this city last Saturday afternoon at two-thirty o’clock, the pastor, Dr. R. B. Garten officiating, and the large congregation of sorrowing friends and the many beautiful floral offerings all were testimonials of the high place he held in the hearts of the people among whom he had lived. Interment was made in the Postville cemetery.
