William F. Beneke, 95, of Eitzen, passed away Monday, November 28, 2005 at Caledonia Care ane Rehab.
William was born July 20, 1910 in Jefferson Township, to William and Mary (Meyer) Beneke. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Ev. Church, rural New Albin. On September 7, 1933 William married Sarah Wuennecke. They farmed in rural New Albin, Houston County, for many years. In 1964 he worked as a carpenter for Nelson Construction Co., in Caledonia until 1975. Sarah preceded him in death in September of 1970.
On March 16, 1973, Bill married Hilda Haar-Burmeister at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ in Eitzen, Minn. They lived in Eitzen until September of 2002 when they moved to Caledonia Care and Rehab.
Survivors include his wife, Hilda of Caledonia; three daughters, Arlene (Paul) Gade of Eitzen, Iona Novak and Kathryn (Wayne) Bailey, both of Caledonia; one step-daughter, Joann (Dale) Meiners of Dorchester, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter Beneke of Caledonia; one sister-in-law, Mabel Haar of Caledonia; and many nieces and nephews.
In addtion to his first wife, William was preceded in death by his parents; seven sisters, Ella Wiegrefe, Alma Kannenberg, Frieda Meyer, Hilda Cordes, Olga Morey, Norma Oitzman, and Hannah Wieland; and three brothers, Edwin, Louis, and Martin Beneke.
Funeral services will be Thursday, December 1, at 2 p.m.at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, Eitzen. Rev. Kent A. Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Memorial Cemetery, New Albin. Friends may call at Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, 518 W. Main St., Caledonia, on Wednesday from 5 until 7 p.m.and at the church on Thursday from 1 p.m.until the time of service.The Caledonia Argus 30 Nov 2005
