Lillian Alma Welper Sires, 90, of New Albi, IA, died Thursday, Sept 23, 2004 at Thornton Manor in Lansing IA.
Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at The Community Center in New Albin with Pastor Keith officiating. Burial will be in The New Albin Cemetery, Friends called on Monday from noon to 2 pm at the Community Center in New Albin.
Lillian was born in New Albin on January 19, 1914 to Gustave H. and Alvina Welper. She was married to Alvin James Sires on November 24, 1930 at Waukon, IA.
For many years Lillian worked as a clerk in the New Albin Post Office until retiring in 1979. She had also worked as a librarian and clerk at Hartley's Grocery and was a very active member of the Grace United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons: James “Gus” (Linda) Sires of Onalaska, WI. and Don (Jean) Sires of Renton, WA; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin James Sires, on July 12, 1970, a brother Harold Welper and a sister Edna Hudachko.
The Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing is assisting the family.
