Jesse J. Burroughs, 76, La Crescent, Minn., died Sunday, April 22, 1984 in St. Francis Medical Center, La Crosse, Wis.

He was born on Jan 3, 1908, in Dorchester, Iowa to John and Alice (Sherrif) Burroughs.

On June 5, 1928, he married Mabel Henry in Caledonia, Minn. She died on April 2, 1980. He then married Evelyn Chandler on Jan. 3, 1981 in Caledonia.

Burroughs was a farmer in the Caledonia area prior to his retirement.

Survivors are his wife; four sons, Robert, Donald, Milton and Tim, all of Caledonia; six daughters, Mrs. Robert (Lucille) Colsch of New Albin, Mrs. Lyle (Lois) Nelson, Mrs. John (Alice) Schleich and Mrs. Richard (Jeannie) Fisch, all of Caledonia, Mrs. Lee (Joan) Breeser of Eitzen, Minn. and Mrs. Al (Donna) Schlinsog of Wisconsin Rapids; two stepsons, Wally Chandler of Melsrose, Wis. and Coby of La Crosse; one step-daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Shirley) Winkels of Winchester, Va.; 34 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one brother, Manford or Traer, Iowa; and one sister, Mrs. Robert (Lydia) Miller of Pacifica, Calif.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters and one grandson.

Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Haugen-Roble Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, both in Caledonia. The Rev. Donald Grubisch will officiate. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 5 to 9 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 8 p.m.
