New Albin, Iowa -- La Verne L. Welper, 62, of New Albin, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center, La Crosse.
He was born Dec. 1, 1938, in Reno, Minn. to Leander and Helen (Wohlers) Welper. On June 20,1959, La Verne married Mary Lou Weymiller at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
La Verne was employed as a mechanic at Prairie Auto Sales and Service in New Albin for
35 years. For the past nine years, he was employed at Farm Power in Caledonia. He was a member of the New Albin Volunteer Fire Department for 21 years and a former member of the New Albin Evangelical Church.Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou, of New Albin; a daughter, Jody (Kyle) Johnson; two grandchildren, Jocelyn and Quincy Johnson, all of Lansing, Iowa; an aunt, Lois (John) Reburn and a sister-in-law, Sheryl Welper, both of New Albin; and many nieces and nephews.
La Verne was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Merle.
In accordance with La Verne's wishes, a private family funeral service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at 1 p.m. from Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, 518 W. Main St., Caledonia. Burial will be in New Albin City Cemetery. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials are prefered to the. New Albin Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Service.
