Leighton William Smith, 66, Boonville, MO, formerly of Postville, IA, died Thursday, October 19, 2006, at Riverdell Care Center, Boonville, MO, following a short illness. He was born on September 25, 1940, at rural Luana, to Leslie Vernone and Jessie (Schultz) Smith. Leighton graduated from Luana High School in 1958. He was a member of the United States National Guard.

On June 14, 1972, Leighton was united in marriage to Linda Suckow at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, IA. They farmed north of Luana for many years. He also worked at Monona Wire until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Smith, Boonville, MO; four children, Gayla Smith, Boonville, MO, David Brainard, Luana, Debra (David) Mayne, Boonville, MO, Brenda (Ronnie) Humble, Billings, MO; nine grandchildren; one sister, Kathleen Smith, Postville and one brother, Eric Smith, Elkader.

Leighton was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Harriett Smith; two brothers, John and Richard Smith and his mother and father-in-law, Henry and Benita Suckow.
