Kenneth Kipp

Kenneth Vincent Kipp, 84, of Waukon passed away Saturday, October 7, 2006, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon from complications of pneumonia. Funeral services were held Monday, October 10, 2006, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, with Father Joseph Schneider and Msgr. Edward Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery, located in rural Waukon. Hanson's Funeral Home of Waukon guided the family with arrangements.

Kenneth Vincent Kipp was born July 8, 1922, in Fergus Falls, MN, the son of Anthony Kipp and Margaret (McManus) Kipp. He went to grammar school at the Blue Field Township Country School in rural Castalia and attended Castalia High School in Castalia.

September 30, 1947, Kenneth married Vivian (Pauley) Kipp at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Harlan. Kenneth and Vivian made their new home and life together on the family farm located outside of Castalia. He operated the farm and delivered mail for the Castalia Post Office, and was a volunteer fireman for the Castalia Fire Department.

Kenneth, also known as "Kippy", and his family moved to Waukon in 1970. He retired from dairy, hog and crop farming after becoming physically disabled. Nothing was more important to him than being near his wife, Vivian, and his family. The phrase "there is no place like home" was the motto Kenneth lived by. He truly enjoyed being at home with his family at his side. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Waukon. Although Kenneth was not able to attend church because of his limited mobility, he was very active in his faith by listening to mass daily on television and by praying the rosary in his recliner.

Kenneth had a great appreciation for nature and its amazing beauty. He was very knowledgeable about trees, plants, animals and the environment. He believed in treating the Earth with special care for future generations. He hunted pheasant and deer for consumption only. An enjoyable Sunday afternoon for Kenneth would have included good conversation while fishing with family and/or friends.

He was a man who had many talents and abilities, able to operate welding equipment, fix and repair just about any type of engine or farming machinery. He was also a skilled carpenter. His hobbies included collecting Indian artifacts (many found on the family farm), woodworking and gardening (growing fruits, vegetables and in later years growing bush roses).

Kenneth was a loyal friend and a kind neighbor, always willing to help someone in need. He was happy to share his time and many talents with others. He will be remembered for his humbleness and compassion toward others.

Kenneth was a loving, caring, patient father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and son, he will be dearly missed because of his kindness, generosity, wisdom, support and humor.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian of Waukon; his children Dean, Daryl, Ron, and Lucy (David) Lawson, of Waukon; Ann (Norman) Schultz, of Postville; Mary (Mike) Kitun of Glen Ellyn, IL; Theresa (Dale) Dobroth, of Lake Forest IL; Dale of Big Lake, MN; Ken (Laura) of Chippewa Falls, WI; Donna (Tim) Benson, of Lansdowne, VA; Anthony of Leesburg, VA; Caroline (Kevin) Kelleher, of Lovettsville, VA; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Colette Dahms, of Decorah; two nieces and one nephew; grandnieces and grandnephews.
