Submitted By: Errin (Lee) Wilker, great-grandniece of deceased"John Welper passed away suddenly." This was the message that sped over the wires Wednesday evening from the Lutheran hospital, La Crosse, and it conveyed sorrow to the hearts of retatives and friends here.
The deceased was born to Bernard and Anna (Limber) Welper at Settrup, Hanover, Germany, March 4, 1857, where he was batized, confirmed and grew to young manhood.
In 1881 he and his brother August came to America, where he was employed at different places, finally buying a farm on Jefferson Ridge, where he and his mother lived until about 25 years ago, when they moved to New Albin to reside.
His mother preceded him in death 22 years ago; also his father who died in Germany, and one
brother, Henry, who passed away 4 years ago.After the death of his mother he moved to LaCrosse, Wis., where he has made his home ever since.
On Jan. 27th he entered the Lutheran hospital, where he submitted to an operation Jan. 29th, and died suddenly last Wednesday evening, Feb. 5th, with pneumonia, aged 72 years, 11 months and 1 day.
He is survived by one sister, Mrs. George Middendorf Sr., of New Albin, and three brothers, August of Amhurst, Colo., George of LaCrosse, and Herman of New Albin.
The deceased was a member of the locala St. Peter's Evangeliceal Church, and his funeral. took place from there Saturday afternoon and was attended by a large circle of relatives and friends, Rev. F.C. Klein of Eitzen, Minn. officiating. Interment in the New Albin cemetery. May his soul rest in peace.
Out of town relatives present at the funeral were: Mrs. H.B. Welper, Mr. and Mrs. Art Kasten and family, Mrs. Leroy Wiebke and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Welper, Caledonia, Minn. Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Welper, Church, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Don Easton and Harry Welper, Mabel, Minn.
