Paralysis Causes Death of Aged Waukon Mother

Arvilla FREDENDALL, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen {Margaret Burtis} WASHBURN, was born August 12, 1854 (1853), at Bristol, Wis. and died Friday at her home in Waukon, after being paralyzed six weeks. August 26, 1877, she married George L. Fredendall, a Civil War Veteran, at Aurora, IL. They lived in farming communities in Iowa, Missouri and Illinois until her husband's death in 1906 {September 9, 1906 Algonquin Twp., McHenry Co., IL}.

For a couple of years she lived in {Argos} Indiana and in the last twenty-eight years in Iowa, seventeen in or near Rossville and the last eleven years in this city. When a young girl she joined the Methodist Church and had lived a consistent Christian life. For nearly fifteen years, owing to her increasing deafness, she had not attended church services. She enjoyed good reading and was interested in public affairs.

She leaves to mourn her passing three sister, Mrs. Ross {Myra} Koontz, Grand Rapids, Mich., Mrs. Stella [Silas] Greene, Chicago, and Mrs. Fannie [Edw.] Barnes of Crystal Lake, IL.
Of the eight children, born to her six remain, namely; Stephen {Carrie Sorenson} of Minneapolis; Mrs. Pearl [Grover] Baugher, Waukon, who for several years past has cared for her mother, Mrs. Claude {Georgia} McCoy, Waukon, Perry {Mae}, Port Huron, MI., Douglas {Edna Snitker}, Belle, MO and Donald {Matilda Leiran} of Waterville. Two children {twins} died in infancy. There are 18 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the Rossville Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. R. L. Van Nice. Burial was in the Rossville (IOOF) Cemetery.
