Jennie Mahr

Jennie L. Mahr, 37, of Waukon, Iowa, went to be with the Lord Saturday, September 23, 2006, at her home in Waukon, surrounded by her loving family, after a very courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 26, at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, with Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Burial was in Frankville Cemetery, Frankville, Iowa. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements.

Jennie Lynn was born June 3, 1969, in Waukon, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Allen) Martin. She was baptized at Frankville Presbyterian Church and confirmed at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon. After graduating from Waukon High School in 1988, Jennie attended NIACC in Mason City for two years and then received a degree in social work from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Her concern for people showed not only in her education, but also her career. She worked as a teachers aid at East Elementary School in Waukon, was a caregiver at Martin Luther Homes, and for the past five years has been a family therapist with Alternative Treatment Associates out of Postville.

When she took a break from her work she enjoyed reading, shopping, camping, and being outdoors, and she loved spending time with her dogs, Hanna and Keisha. In spite of truly enjoying her job and having many other special interests, Jennie's passion was her family. Taking boat rides on the Mississippi River or traveling to a warm, sunny beach with her husband and children were some special times she cherished. She liked all kinds of family events, and often spent hours shopping for just the right gift for one of her many nieces and nephews who meant so much to her.

Survivors include her husband, Roger; her children, Nathan and Ciara; her parents, Charles Martin and Mary Martin; her sisters, Heather (Jason) Johnson and Tina Martin; and her grandmother, Ruth Allen, all of Waukon.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Leslie Allen and Hazel and James Martin.

Honorary casketbearers were Whitney, Jordan, and Austin Hogan; Haley and Jadon Johnson and Owen and Jeremy Frieden; Jared and Jenna Bartels; Elizabeth and Patrick Mahr; Marshall and Rachel Berns; and Casey and Kelsey Cota. Casketbearers were Jamie Dougherty, Lee Gavle, Curtis Reiser, Steve Amann, Mike Sweeney, and Jerri Schwartzhoff.
