Lawrence C. Ward, age 80, of Waukon, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 15 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, rural Waukon. Hanson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence was born January 7, 1924, in Hanover, Allamakee County, Iowa, to John and Elizabeth (Griffin) Ward. On March 25, 1943, he married Rita Mae Ferring in Davenport, Iowa. Lawrence was a farmer and a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Rita; six daughters, Carole Gehrig of La Crescent, Minn., Mary Schulte of Waukon, Diana Ward of Waukon, Lorna Halvorson of Elkhart, Ind., Julie Quandahl of Spillville, Iowa, and Nancy Weis of Decorah, Iowa; six sons, Robert Ward of Decorah, Dennis Ward of Buena Park, Calif., Patrick Ward of Waukon, Gerald Ward of Springer, N.M., Thomas Ward of Calmar, Iowa, and Scott Ward of East Grand Fork, Minn.; 33 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Anna Mae Lamberty of Wheaton, Ill., and Greta Hurtubise of San Francisco, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Kenneth Ward and Kevin Ward; and two siblings, Emmett Ward and Jeannette Heatter. Casketbearers were Lawrence's sons, Robert, Dennis, Patrick, Gerald, Thomas, and Scott Ward.
