Ruth Livingston

Ruth M. Livingston, 89, Harpers Ferry, Iowa, died Monday, June 19, 2006, at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 22, at St. Ann's-St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Harpers Ferry, with Rev. Louis Trzil and Monsignor Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was at St. Joseph's Paint Rock Cemetery, rural Harpers Ferry. Hanson Funeral Home, Waukon, was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth was born July 20, 1916, in Lansing, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Inga (Evanson) Ferring. She graduated from Immaculate Conception School in Lansing.

January 17, 1939, she married Leo F. Livingston at Immaculate Conception Church in Lansing. They lived in the Paint Rock area near Harpers Ferry.

As a homemaker, Ruth took great pride in her home on the farm. She also took great pride in her family and her community. She was a member of St. Ann's-St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry and was a member of the church's Rosary Society for many years. She will be dearly missed by all.

Survivors include four children, Bob Livingston of Harpers Ferry, Peg (Norm) McCormick of Monticello, Iowa, Jean Livingston of Madison, Wis., and Cathy (Steve) Piersch of Dubuque; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Spinner and Betty Ferring, both of Lansing.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leo; her parents, Henry and Inga Ferring; a son, Jerry Livingston; and a sister, Dorothy Schwartzhoffs.

Casketbearers were Steve McCormick, Mike McCormick, Jeff McCormick, Beth Cox, Todd Moen, Tracey Kunze, Glenn Livingston, Jim Livingston, Leah McCrea, Mitch Livingston, Macey Livingston, Michael Piersch, and Jonathan Piersch.
