Flora Larsen 1912-2006

Flora Larsen (nee Petrie) was born on April 19, 1912 to William and Margaret (nee Neuhring) Petrie in rural Postville, IA. At a young age the family moved to Hartford South Dakota where attended elementary school and graduated from Hartford High School in 1929.

Following her graduation from high school Flora attended and graduated from Sioux Valley School of Nursing in 1932. Flora worked as a school nurse at the School for the Deaf for one year.

Flora married Harvey M. Larsen on October 24, 1933 and they farmed in the rural Parker area until 1943 when they moved to Sioux Falls. She worked at Sioux Valley Hospital and at Bethany Lutheran Nursing Home until her retirement.

Flora was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Lydia Fellowship Guild and the Sioux Valley Hospital Nurses Alumni.

Grateful for having shared her life are a step-son, Edward H. (Emilie) Larsen, White Bear Lake, MN; step grandchildren, Doris, Barbara, Michael; step great grandchildren, Rachel, Clinton Dietz, Laurand Johnson, Aaron, Timothy, Rebekah Larsen; and her nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, her parents, two brothers and a sister, preceded Flora in death.

Memorials may be direct to either Bethel Lutheran Church or to the Sioux Valley Hospice program.

Visitation for the public begins at 2:00 pm Thursday with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Miller West Funeral Chapel, 6200 W. 41st Street.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Friday at Bethel Lutheran Church, 1801 S. Valley View Road with interment at Hills of Rest Memoiral Park.
