Carl Cook De Witt is Buried Sunday

Funeral services for Carl Cook De Witt retired farmer and businessman, were held Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian church conducted by the Ref. A. H. Grossheim. The following carried the casket to its resting place in Oakland cemetery: Rance Dundee, Robert Waters, William Ashline, Orie Gilson, Charles Regan and Howard Gordon.

Mr. De Witt was born at Black River Falls, Wis., May 31, 1869 and was nearing his 80th birthday. His death occurred at his home in this city on May 26, 1949 due to the effects of a stroke sustained a week previous and a heart ailment.

His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Stephen De Witt. They came to Allamakee county in 1897, settling in Ludlow township where he grew to manhood. On July 1, 1895 this marriage to Mabel C. Jones took place at Waterloo. Later Waukon became the family home.

Those left to morn are his widow, three daughters and two sons, namely: Mrs. C. C. Haas, Flora, Ill, Mrs. Jennie Donahue, Burlington, Iowa, and Marian De Witt, Waukon; Carlton De Witt, Es Cerrito, Calif., and Dwight DeWitt of Postville. Also a sister, Mrs. Emmeline Lyman of McGrath, Minn, fourteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Relative from a distance attending the services were Mrs. Mary De Witt, Mrs. Hazel Toebe and Ward De Witt of Minneapolis.
