John "Tex" Dotseth
John A. “Tex” Dotseth, 84, of Waukon, Iowa, died Saturday, March 25, 2006, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 28 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon with Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements.
John Alexander Dotseth was born July 4, 1921, in Waukon, the son of John Sr. and Millie (Nylund) Dotseth. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon. In 1940 he graduated from Waukon High School and attended Waukon Junior College for two years. Tex was a hard worker and held a variety of jobs. He worked at the Polar Bear, Waukon Bakery, and farmed until 1959.
August 3, 1963, he married Ruth Goeke McMillan in Caledonia, Minn. Tex also worked at West Side Lumber and Northern Engraving until his retirement in 1997.
Tex lived his life simply, but fully. In his younger years he had a passion for bowling, fishing, and boating. Many weekends were spent on the Mississippi River. In more recent years, he spent much of his time watching NASCAR, Lawrence Welk, baseball, and the farm channel. Tex loved life and family. He also enjoyed visiting with people and loved to tell stories. His exuberance and zest for living will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.
Survivors include four step-daughters, Donna Gillespie of La Crosse, Wis., Nancy (Russell) Welper of Dorchester, Iowa, Julie (Steve) Alden of Waukon, and Mary Anne (Joe) Urell of Fountain City, Wis.; one step-son, David (Kathie) Simon of Broken Arrow, Okla.; 12 step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Pat) Dotseth and a sister, Jeanne (Norman) Wheeler both of Decorah, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth who died September 26, 2001; and an infant brother, Raymond.
