ROY BEALLS KILLED IN FRANCE.
Roy Bealls, son of Mr. and Mrs. Conover Bealls of Waukon, was the first Allamakee county boy to lose his life in the great war. Early in 1916 he enlisted with the Canadian army and after training at once went into active service. The telegram to his parents stated he was killed in action on Aug. 21, 1917.

NOTE: Although this article gives the surname as Bealls the Woodmansee burial book shows; Roy C. Beale 1892 - 1917, and Conover Faulk Beale 3-9-1854 / 9-28-1923, as buried in Oakland cemetery's Main section, at Waukon, Iowa.

Roy Bealls,, son of Mr. and Mrs. Conover Bealls of Waukon, was killed on the battle fields of France August 21st. No details further than the telegram have been received by his parents. He enlisted in 1916 with the Canadian forces in Canada. On account of censorship his parents did not know in what part of the front he was engaged. He was a private soldier, No. 625381, Canadian Infantry.

-Note: the gravestone in Oakland cemetery, Waukon may be a cenotaph, although it is possible that his remains were returned home from France after the war.
