Lansing Farmer killed in accident with machinery
Lansing, Iowa - Howard C. Leppert, 55, R. 2 Lansing, died in an accident on his farm Sunday afternoon.
Leppert was moving a piece of heavy machinery, an elevator, when a rod broke and the elevator fell on him, accoring to a report from the Allamakee County Sheriff Department.
Leppert was dead on arrival at Waukon Veterans Memorial Hospital, the shefiff's report says. Death was due to massive head and neck injuries.
He was born May 6, 1930, in Waukon, to Clarence and Clara (Siekmeier) Leppert.
He married Della Schlitter on June 19, 1954, in St. John's Lutheran Church, Waukon. They farmed in French Creek Township, rural Lansing.
Survivors are his wife, two sons, Jeffrey and Gregory, both of rural Lansing, a daughter, Natalie Heintz of Brownsville, Minn., his mother and a brother, Robert, both of rural Lansing, a sister, Ruth Beyer of London, England, and a grand-daughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Lansing. The Rev. Perry Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Mays Prairie Cemetery, rural Lansing.
Friends may call today from 5 to 9 p.m. at Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home, Lansing.
