Juanita Monroe

Funeral services for Mrs. Merle Monroe were held Friday, December 23, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia, Iowa. The Reverend Dave L. Lenth officiated. Marlys Hager was the organist.

The Casket Bearers were: Jeff Anfinson, Darin Monroe, Joel Monroe, Eli Swift, Mark Monroe, Wade Monroe, and Todd Waterman and the Honorary Casket Bearers were: Deone McMullen, Beth Nading, Wendy Monroe, Shauna Swift, Katy Shipp, and Lisa Waterman.

Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery at Castalia. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Juanita Elaine Monroe was born August 28, 1926, near Castalia, Iowa, to Edward Rudolf Preuss and Florence Amelia (Schroeder) Preuss. Juanita passed away Monday, December 19, 2005, in the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa, at the age of 79 years, 3 months, and 21 days.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia. Juanita graduated from Castalia High School. She was married to Merle Francis Monroe in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia, Iowa. To this union six children were born.

Juanita loved spending time with her grandchildren. She liked to garden and cook. One of her most special dishes was her Cinnamon Twists. She was also an avid supporter of Zion’s Alter Guild for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Merle Monroe, two sons, Dean (Becky) Monroe Castalia, Iowa, Roger (Mary) Monroe, Castalia, Iowa, three daughters, Gail (Dennis) Anfinson, Hawkeye, Iowa, Marla (Mike) Miene, Postville, Iowa, and Brenda (Kevin Wiltgen) Waterman, Castalia, Iowa, 13 grandchildren, Deone (Ralph) McMullen, Beth (Dave) Nading, Jeff (Sheryl) Anfinson, Wendy (Brooks Kelly) Monroe, Darin (Sarah) Monroe, Joel (Tara) Monroe, Mark (Jen) Monroe, Eli (Alesha) Swift, Shauna Swift (Dwight Horns), Katy (Jody) Shipp, Wade Monroe, Lisa Waterman (Jermey Brown), and Todd Waterman, 19 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild, two sisters, Ramona Svendson, Ossian, Iowa, Wanda McNally, Luana, Iowa, a brother, Harold (Nell) Preuss, Castalia, Iowa, and a sister-in-law Betty Monroe, Castalia, Iowa.

She is preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Monroe, and her parents.
