Arvey Miene

Arvey G. Miene, 62, of West Union, Iowa, formerly of Waukon, Iowa, died Sunday, December 11, 2005, at his home in West Union. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, December 14 at 11 a.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon with Rev. Richard N. Eick officiating. Inurnment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call for one hour before the services at the church on Wednesday.

Arvey Gene Miene was born April 15, 1943, in Waukon, Iowa. He was the son of Ervin Carl and Mildred Eleanor (Brandsmeier) Miene. Arvey was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon and graduated from Waukon High School in 1961.

June 5, 1965, he married Jane Shafer at the Zalmona Presbyterian Church in rural Waukon. They were later divorced. Arvey lived in Mason City for a time where he worked as a deliveryman for Coca Cola and Lays Potato Chips and also for a service garage where he operated the tow truck. From 1969 until 1987 he farmed in Ludlow Township and sold fertilizer and chemicals for Sea Born Nutrients. He moved to Benton County in 1987 where he worked for Grovert Chevrolet. Since 1999 Arvey has lived in West Union.

Arvey enjoyed his time on the farm. He also liked going to auctions and antique sales, working on vintage cars, woodworking, and crafts.

Survivors include three children, Vickie Miene of Dubuque, Scott (Maria) Miene of Waukon, and Karrie (Don) Zidlicky of Decorah; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; a sister, Julie (Jim) Halverson of Monona; and a brother, Richard (Faith) Miene of Toddville, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
