Rev. Charles Witt

Rev. Dr. Charles E. Witt, Sr., found eternal peace at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Sunday, October 23, 2005 at the age of 79 years.

Beloved husband of the late Anna Tonette “Toni” (nee Rothnem), he will be remembered and missed by his loving sons Charles Jr. (Carolyn), Thomas, David (Roseann), James Witt and daughter Sara (Eugene) Yamaguchi and 10 proud grandchildren: Henry, Sam, Andrew, Alex, Emily, Erik and Ryan Witt, Stephen, Christopher and Lauren Yamaguchi; sisters Alice Witt and Eleanor (Rein) Wuestenberg; sister-in-law Valborg (the late George “Clar”) Chronquist and a brother-in-law Alister “Casey” (the late Barbara Jean) MacDonald; other relatives, friends and members of his congregations. He was preceded in death by Willard and Richard (the late Kay) Witt and Anna Marie (the late Don) Lorber.

A time to gather was held on Saturday, October 29, 2005 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 19th and W. Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee from 10 A.M. until the time of the Memorial Service at 12 noon with Rev. Justin Silvius and Rev. Ray Stubbe officiating followed immediately by a reception in the Fellowship Hall.

Chuck was a graduate of Carthage College (Illinois) and Northwestern Theological Seminary in Minneapolis, MN. While pursuing his theological studies he was minister of Wythe Presbyterian Church in Illinois. He graduated and was ordained in 1949 and then married Anna Tonette Rothnern. He served Trinity Lutheran in Marshfield, WI, St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Postville, IA and Redeemer Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, WI, ending 44 years of ministering in 1993. He received his Doctor of Divinity in 1970. He was instrumental in Central City Churches, Redeemer Coffee house, Lutheran Social Services, United Lutheran Program for the Aging and many more organizations.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 631 N. 19th St., Milwaukee, WI, 53233, and are deeply appreciated by the family.

Chuck’s family loved him dearly and is thankful that he is in peace in the arms of the Lord.
