DIED - Near West Union, March 29th, of Paralysis, after twelve hours' illness, Mrs. Lois Hinman, in the 90th year of her age.

In the death of this venerable woman another link connecting the present century with the past is severed. She was the mother of Mrs. A.M. Bellows of Fr. Creek Tp.; was born in 1789, and being the daughter of a revolutionary soldier, was familiar with events of the last half of the century.

Her husband entered the army after their marriage in 1811. Her life was largely that of a pioneer. Of seven children, five are living, the eldest nearly seventy years, while many grandchildren and great grandchildren, grown to manhood's estate, will long affectionately cherish the memory of Grandma.

The writer, paying a recent visit, found her one who might have been called three score instead of four score and ten. In possession of her faculties and senses to a remarkable degree, and in good health, she seemed likely to enjoy life much longer. She showed us, as a specimen of her handiwork within two years, a bed-quilt, containing 3120 pieces, one of several equally curious wrought by her.

We bade her good-bye, hoping and expecting to see her soon again; but her allotted time on earth was spent, and she arose one morning and prepared for the day, only to lie down, in a few hours, to sleep the sleep of death.

Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord, that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them." M.A.R.B.

~Lansing Mirror, Friday, April 25, 1879; pg 3

Notes:
-Her husband Michael Hinman died in 1852 & is buried in Lima cemetery, Fayette co. IA. It's likely that Lois is also buried there.
-The daughter mentioned in the obit was Angeline M. Bellows, who died 1894 & is buried in Mt. Hope cemetery
